Cool colors for Autumn/Fall

Let's focus on the rich and spectacular Cool colors for Fall / Autumn. The 'pumpkin' palette certainly doesn't do it for everyone! For many the traditional colors of Autumn are extremely unflattering.  

So let's highlight some brilliant color combinations and fresh ideas from the Summer, Winter and Cool color palettes that hold their own through the season of 'mellow fruitfulness'. 

Explore the jewel tones, deep reds, jade greens, dramatic blues and exquisite purples to really embrace the season.

You don't need to stick to neutrals for a big purchase like a Winter coat. One of the biggest joys for many women is that cool colors for Autumn/Winter give them the opportunity to enjoy a splash of rich color and wait for the compliments. 

High contrast is stunning on Cool skins, and the Princess of Wales often chooses to style her winter coats with black which makes for easy accessoring and gives maximum contrast. These would all look equally good with navy or charcoal gray. 

Note the additional way of styling with a matching turtle neck and black trousers to look more casual. It doesn't have to match exactly, a plain or a print that includes the tones would be equally attractive.

Camel is not the best next to the Princess' face but, teaming it with a strong contrast, allows her to ring the changes and camel always strikes a classy note. 

Teaming camel with black is the classic but navy gives it a fresh modern twist and is softer on the complexion.

Brown is a big color this year but it's not as flattering as Burgundy which works with practically every other color.

What a fabulous photo of one of our favorite actresses! Reese Witherspoon is petite and keeps her Barbie pink coat a bit shorter so it doesn't overwhelm.

A warm winter coat is a big purchase but layers are an essential part of autumn and winter style and there are lots of opportunities to add oomph to your outfit.

Traditional Tartan

Tartan wool cloth has a long history and originates from the clans of Scotland, but it's become a fashion must-have for the Autumn and Winter seasons.

It's frequently worn by members of the Royal Family who love to holiday in their Scottish castle.  

Although if you're Scottish you wear the correct tartan for your clan/family, most of us have no such limitations and can choose according to taste and color direction. There are dozens of different colors, both Warm and Cool, but I'm honing in on tartans or plaids in Cool colors.  

It's a wonderful base to use for co-ordination as most tartans include several colors. You can pick out any color for a blouse or warm jumper then perhaps another for your coat. 

You can even create a monochromatic look where the shades don't have to match exactly - see second left below.
